WASHINGTON — U.S. health officials warned doctors and patients on Tuesday that Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc's and Eli Lilly and Co's diabetes drug Byetta may be linked to acute pancreatitis in some patients.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it has reviewed 30 reports of pancreatitis in patients being treated with Byetta, one of the most successful new diabetes medicines in recent years.
"An association between Byetta and acute pancreatitis is suspected in some of these cases," an FDA alert said.

A healthy diet and exercise are critical to managing diabetes. But now sleep is being added to the equation. Too little sleep and too much sleep are both risks for developing and aggravating diabetes, US scientists suggest.
“What research is telling us is that sleep is the piece of the health picture that has been overlooked until now, and which you can control to a great extent,” Dr Donna Arand from the Sleep Disorders Centre at Kettering Hospital in Ohio told the Sunday Times.
